Football World Cup Fever!
How about those All Whites then! The staff
at Designbrand have been loving watching
the All Whites making football history. But the
late nights/early mornings haven't slowed our
industrial design consultancy down at all
- we are hard at work designing products,
including some custom furniture design.

Welcome Bea!
Bea Gracia is our new intern. She hails from
Valancia, Spain. Bea is an Industrial Design Engineering
graduate. She will be undertaking product design tasks
including a new product design for furniture.
Her other duties will include CAD, conceptual design,
prototyping and support for our industrial design consultancy.
Welcome Bea - we know you will love our
beautiful country!

Aucklanders
Industrial design Auckland.
Well, to avoid confusion we need to assure our

Designing down south.
It has come to our attention that the mainlanders
are being left out of our news articles. So to be fair
we decided to write one for them.
If you are looking for industrial design in Christchurch
Product design in Christchurch or, infact,
product development in Christchurch then please
give us a call. We have good relationships with
many Christchurch based manufacturers and
often send our design related enquiries to our
South Island contacts. Being based in Wellington
means that we can service our Christchurch based
clients, giving them the best of a centrally based
design consultancy.
- Oh yeah, we offer industrial design to Auckland too!

Sustainable Design
Industrial design as a discipline has a high responsibility to keep materials
and processes used in the design and manufacturing of product as sustainable
as possible. Our product designers have been engaged to investigate
the product development of two sustainable designs.
One of these products is going to offer an alternative to a highly
disposable ‘throw away’, the other is a product design very much as
an investment good with a likely life cycle of thirty years and more.
Sustainable design is here to stay and we look forward to taking
this responsibility seriously when investigating and designing
products and processes and specifying materials.

Intern swap!
Our industrial design intern, Serve Kessels, has
now completed his degree in industrial design engineering
and finished his time here at designbrand.
Serve produced CAD and concept design work for
an in-house product development. We wish him
the best of luck for his travels and design career.
We would also like to welcome Jenny Castles who
has just started her product design internship here
at designbrand. Jenny will be completing the practical
content of her Industrial design engineering degree
with us. Her duties will include CAD, conceptual
product development and product design.
We look forward to working with her for the next six months

A long overdue welcome to Serve Kessels!
Serve has replaced Mariam as our resident product
design intern. Mariam has returned to complete her
design engineering studies and Serve is completing
the practical content of his Industrial Product Design
degree with us here at Designbrand.
Serve will be concentrating his efforts on an
new inhouse product development.

I have a new product idea, what do I do now?
This is a common search on google and we hope
to answer that here at Designbrand. We are a
New Zealand based industrial design company.
That means we design products for manufacture.
Your best bet is to contact us for specific input
on your idea. But here is a brief outline of what
normally happens:
You should check that your idea has not been
done already - google it!
After that make contact with Designbrand - we will
sign an NDA with you and then offer our advice.
Typically we will design all aspects of the product for
manufacture and remain involved untill your product
hits the store shelves! See also the FAQ on this subject.

Welcome Mariam El Beshlawi!
Mariam is studying Industrial Design Engineering at
Massey university in Palmerston North. She will be doing the
practical content of her studies here at Designbrand.
Her role will include research and development
of several products that Designbrand is developing.
We are looking forward to working with her over the
coming months.

Another Dutchie.
Designbrand industrial design consultancy would like
to welcome Frank Westland. Frank is studying
product design and engineering at Utrecht university.
Frank will be participating in all aspects of Designbrand's
product development process. His focus will be on a
specific project that we hope to be able to show soon.
We look forward to introducing him to Kiwi style
product designing.

The Olympics start tomorrow!
A little known fact is that the product development of
the torch started back in 2005! A long road to production
saw 388 product designs submitted for the olympic torch.
The final product is a fine example of industrial design.
We doubt that you have a product design project of
that scale for us but none the less contact us now and
let us design something beautiful for you!

Industrial Design Wind Turbine.
Phillipe Stark - a high profile product designer - has
put his hand to designing a wind turbine. Wind turbines
have traditionally been the field of engineers but it is
obvious that the industrial design input has taken this
turbine beyond pure function.

Goodbye Christina.
This is Christina Jensen's last week with Designbrand
Product Design Consultancy, Wellington, New Zealand.
We are sad to se her go but she has a degree in Industrial Design
that needs completing. Christina has been involved in a

While we are on the marine theme!
We came across this concept recently.
Designed by an Industrial Design student. While it may
be just a concept, with issues that are not resolved, we
thought that it displayed the ability of Product Designers
to think outside the square. Nice idea, good luck for
the product development!

Marine Reserve
As many of you will know, Desginbrand
Industrial Design consultancy is based
in Island Bay Wellington. We are
located above the dramatic South Coast
with sweeping views of the Cook Straight.
The coastline on our doorstep is about to
become a marine reserve! What has this got to
do with product development? Simple,
we would love to do some more work in

Goodbye, Hello!
Designbrand Industrial Design, Wellington,
New Zealand has a new product design intern. Lotte has
returned to the Netherlands after six months and
now we welcome Christina Jensen to the consultancy.
Christina hails from Denmark and is studying
Product Design there. Christina will participate
in a full range of Industrial Design work
ranging from CAD design to product development.

Christmas AGAIN.
Designbrand Industrial design consultancy
in Wellington New Zealand will be closing
for the Christmas break this year. We will be away
from Friday 21st until the 7th Jan. However, if the
silly season inspires an idea or your New Years

Manufacturing Revolution!
Designbrand in Wellington, New Zealand is always interested
in new manufacturing techniques. So when we came across
this we were understandably excited! Product design
is always effected by manufacturing capabilities but
Arcam has come up with a solution which will give
industrial design new freedoms. Arcam's
rapid manufacturing machines are capable of 3D
printing in titanium! Structural 3D prints are
now a reality. Product design will have
a new frontier to explore.

Urbis!
Designbrand has been featured in the Urbis
Product Design Annual! The product featured
is the Hushamok Okoa. This product was great
fun for us as Industrial Designers to work on. The
project incorporated design engineering, CAD,
prototyping, and product development.
We are proud of our achivements and stoked
that a product designed by an industrial design
consultancy in Wellington, New Zealand has
recieved such international acceptance.

Off to a Product Design Trade Show!
Jurgen is off this week to visit
manufacturers in China and help to
promote our latest Industrial Designs
at a product design tradeshow in Germany.
Jurgen will be joining Hushamok at the
Kind+Jugend tradeshow. A range of our
latest industrial designs will be on show.

New Industrial Designer on board!
Welcome Lotte Medema.
Lotte is an Industrial Design student from
the Netherlands who is doing an Industrial
Design internship with Designbrand in Wellington
New Zealand. Lotte will be gaining some
product design experience with us for the next
four months. She will have many opportunities
from prototyping and CAD drawings to product design
and product development. With a range of exciting
products on the go, we are sure Lotte will get a good
look at New Zealand Industrial Design.

Designbrand Industrial Design Consultancy in

login facilities! As product designers we find this
development very exciting. Our clients are now
able to be much more involved in the product
design process. Each client has their own page
that contains progress images and also
downloadable CAD files. This means that
all parties involved in the product development
can access what they need instantly. Big CAD
files that can't be e-mailed are easily
downloaded from our site. 3D pdf files
can also be embedded so that clients without
CAD facilities can view the designs.

Best Awards
It's that time of year again!
The Best Awards entries close on the 6th of July
and like last year Designbrand Product design consultancy
has an entry for the Industrial Design section!
We can't tell you which product our design entry is
so you'll just have to wait until October when the results
are announced. As Industrial Designers we are always
keen to see our product designs become successful products
and as the Best Awards are New Zealand's top design award
it is a great opportunity for both Designbrand and our clients
to showcase our latest. We just wish the award ceremony

New Product Launch!
Today Designbrand Industrial Design Consultancy in
Wellington, New Zealand revealed its latest product design!
Clients Hushamok approached Designbrand to provide
Industrial Design input into the hammock and spring system of
their new line of baby hammocks. Speed to market was key to
designing Hushamok's new range. The client also required
the product design to circumnavigate existing patents and provide
Hushamok with a positive point of difference. Designbrand came
up with a revolutionary spring system that not only saves on
materials, it also provides a far more user-friendly product.
Designbrand's flexible industrial design process
allowed them to deliver the full range of product design
from research to finished product. Designbrand also
provided prototyping allowing the client to make
accurate decisions from physical prototypes.
Designbrand was able to respond extremely quickly
to these decisions, in some cases reworking a concept
and providing the finished prototype the following day.
The finished design is a nominee in the JPMA Innovation awards!
We are very proud of this product and wish Hushamok

DesignBrand Industrial Design Consultancy from 
Wellington, New Zealand has taken on a new 
Industrial Design intern! Christian Melchiorsen is from Denmark 
and will be completing  the practical element of his Industrial Design 
course here in Wellington. Christian will be gaining experience
in all aspects of Industrial Design, product design and product
development. Apart from learning our 3D CAD software, he will
develop concepts for new product designs, be involved
in mechanical design and develop  product designs for
manufacture. Welcome Christian!

Designbrand Industrial Design consultancy are finalists in the Best awards.
Designbrand entered the conceptual product design category this year with the SeaBug project and is a finalist in the awards.
Being based in Wellington, New Zealand on the edge of the ocean meant that a project like this was bound to come knocking sooner or later! The design of the Seabug is outlined in the projects section. We feel that projects like this highlight Designbrand's product design scope as well as our ability to work with other specialists in their field. Designbrand has been featured on the Adobe Website!
Designbrand has been using Adobe Acrobat 3D in their product design process for some time now and agreed to participate in a product review. This software allows us to collaborate with our 'out of town' clients, keeping everyone up to date on all aspects of the design from form to detail. This means that we need not leave Wellington to show our clients any developments. The software performs perfectly and our clients can use free Acrobat Reader to view 3D files.
