AUCKLAND SHELTER

Auckland Transport’s Modular Bus Shelter project aimed to develop a consistent suite of shelter designs and parts to fit 90% of locations requiring a bus shelter upgrade option.
Designbrand competed against other high profile architect and design companies to win the overall competition.

Prototype shelters of the 3 best liked shelters were built and trialed in downtown Auckland with the result that the Designbrand shelter came out on top as the best all around performer.
Designbrand submitted numerous concept visuals, and continued to work closely with Auckland Transport to develop the design to the point where it is now being manufactured and rolled out throughout the Auckland Transport network.

AT Minor

Each of the three shelter sizes is available in 3 depths of 800mm (slimline), 1300mm (existing standard shelter width), and 1500mm (desirable if space allows). The design has focused on refining designs for the first 3 shelter types and ensuring that the parts can be used in the more complex, location specific, and much larger Neighborhood Interchanges.

AT Intermediate

This is the medium size shelter consisting of x2 minor shelter modules. The modular design allows for a Minor or Intermediate shelter to be upgraded into a Major by adding components. This shelter incorperates smart technology. Form parts are developed specifically for our shelter designs. These include mounting feet, seat brackets and armrests. Casting patterns are designed and produced in house. Key features: Modular design. Enviromentaly sustainable production practices. Future proof through “Smart Shelter” upgrade option. Solar lighting.

AT Major

This is the largest of the shelter suite family for AT intended for important bus stops. The modular design allows for a Minor or Intermediate shelter to be upgraded to a Major by adding components. This shelter incorperates smart technology. Key features: Modular design. Enviromentaly sustainable production practices. Future proof through “Smart Shelter” upgrade option. Solar lighting.
